Perfection 101

“Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

Matthew‬ ‭5:48‬ ‭NASB‬‬

This is a command from Jesus. The command to be perfect. He didn’t say try to be perfect. He said be perfect. Just as he never told us to try to love our neighbors and our enemies. He simply said we should love them.

Why so? Because ‘trying’ to do something places it well within your efforts and ability to do so. If you rely on your ability to be perfect, you will give up in frustration and failure. By your own ability, attaining perfection is impossible.

Jesus commands us to be perfect knowing that He will and has made grace available for us to be able to achieve that. Grace begins where man’s ability ends. Grace will not be needed if man can do a thing only with his own wisdom and ability. This same Grace is available for you as you embark with me on this series of perfection.

We are going to explore what what perfection is from the standpoint of the Kingdom of God and we are going to be doers and not just hearers.

Can perfection be achieved? Yes, Yes it can. Not by man’s ability for mankind are as imperfect as they come. It’s is only by Grace. Is Grace enough for that ?

This is what the Lord said to Paul, “My grace is sufficient for you: for my power is perfected in your weakness.”(2 Corinthians 12:9)

This applies to every single one of His children. The Spirit of God has been given to you and I to help us in our weaknesses (Romans 8:26). Hence whereas you might see it impossible to attain perfection because of your weaknesses. God sees it highly possible because it’s also a chance for His power to be perfected in you to walk in the good works set up before you.

The command here is to Be perfect and we are going to explore and obey it by His ever sufficient supply of Grace.
