Perfection 108: Faith – Faithfulness

Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in Heaven is perfect.

Matthew 5:8 NKJV

But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue…

II Peter 1:5 NKJV

In our previous session, we dealt with the foundational stone of faith unto the attainment of Perfection.

We learnt that one should have faith in God and His word no matter the circumstance. We also learnt that faith comes not simply by hearing but by obeying what you have heard. Faith comes by obedience unto the Word of God. For obedience shows that you have truly heard.

The next aspect we want to look at is that of FAITHFULNESS. Faithfulness is an aspect of faith that we mustn’t overlook in our growth process.

We have been commanded to be perfect just as our Heavenly Father is perfect. One of the aspects of Him being perfect is that of His faithfulness.

Our God is faithful. He is always faithful.

Know therefore that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God…

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭7:9‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Our Lord Jesus Christ being the Image of God, exhibited this wonderful attribute of our God unto us such that even when we are faithless towards Him, He is always faithful.

“If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.”

‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭2:13‬ ‭NASB‬‬

That is who He is. A quality that He cannot deny Himself of.
What does it mean to be faithful?

The word “Faithful” is translated from the original Greek text pistos.
This word is an adjective derived from the noun “faith” which is pistis. Therefore someone who has faith in something is faithful to that cause.

An example is Abraham:
Abraham believed the Word of God concerning his seed even when He was regarded dead in his ability to produce children at His very old age. He had faith in the Word of God.

Faith, in accordance with the things of God, simply means to believe. Believe; no matter the circumstances surrounding you.

The word “Believe” (pisteuō) is the verb form of the noun – Faith (pistis). You cannot say

“I faith in God” but rather

“I believe in God.”

“I have faith in God.”
Abraham believed in God and held on to that faith. Therefore, He was called faithful.

So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.

Galatians 3:9 KJV

Faith comes by hearing thus obeying the Word of God. When God spoke to Abraham, He not only instructed him, He promised Abraham a blessing of a nation which begins with a seed.

Now the LORD said to Abram, “Go forth from your country, And from your relatives And from your father’s house, To the land which I will show you; And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing…
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭12:1-2‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Abraham not only “heard” but obeyed the voice of God and left his hometown to where God wanted to show Him. He showed God his faith by His work of obedience.  He also kept on believing to the very end. By this, He was faithful.

To be faithful is to have faith in God and His Word and hold on to that faith till the very end.
HEARING, BELIEVING AND OBEYING according to the Word of God; be it a promise, an instruction or BOTH. The very end is the fulfillment of that promise or accomplishment of the instruction.

Take note that the end may be after your death. In Hebrews 11 known as the Hall of Faith, they died not receiving the fullness of their promise (v39).  But they were termed faithful because they held on to God’s Word even until their deaths. This is because The Promise could not be fulfilled without us (the church) and so it extended beyond their lifetime.

In our next session, we will delve deeper into this wonderful aspect of Faith called faithfulness. Many have received the promise of God concerning their lives and destinies.  They believed it for a moment. This was faith.  But as time passed and circumstances became tough; even looking impossible, many have lost hope and given up on their faith. Others turn to complain and question God in doubt.

I am here to encourage you to awaken to this quality of faithfulness. GOD ALWAYS FINISHES WHAT HE STARTS. HE ALWAYS FULFILLS HIS PROMISES and HE WILL DEFINITELY DO THE SAME IN YOUR CASE.
Don’t just have faith for a moment; hold on to that faith till its fulfillment. Remain faithful and just like Abraham and Sarah (concerning Isaac); You will see its fulfillment!!! There’s is sufficient supply of grace for anyone who has failed before and anyone close to giving up.

Rise up! Have faith! And Remain faithful!

You will see the Goodness of God in the Land of the Living. In Jesus Name!!!
