Matthew 5:48 NKJV

Faith

“But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith  virtue…”

‭‭II Peter‬ ‭1:5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Faith is the foundation stone on which other qualities are built upon on every believer’s path to perfection. Therefore it is the most important.

Without faith, it’s impossible to please God. Without faith, one cannot be a Christian  in the first place.

FAITH IN GOD AND HIS WORD

This is very Cardinal. You must have faith in God and His Word concerning all things even though this may go against your present situation, feelings, logic or even theology , doctrine or creed. Once the Word says a thing, you must believe the Word completely for it. Do not try to fit that word into a box and twist it to match the doctrine you’ve already been living on, once you sense a contradiction.
You must have faith in God at all times. In the good and evil days. For evil days come to everyone. The Word of God says so:

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Ephesians 6:13

FAITH IN GOD AND HIS WORD FOR YOURSELF
Normally, on our path to maturity, many begin to have faith concerning the things of God in His Word. Things concerning healing , miracles, prosperity, deliverance, prophecy, visions etc But they believe it for others. They believe it for the great men and women of God. They believe it for their pastors. They believe it in the testimonies of others.

One can say, “Oh I know laying on of hands is real and true.” Because these things are in the Bible. Many can teach them beautifully which is very good.

But how many believe that all these are true for themselves?

When the opportunity presents itself, Will they lay hands on the sick and command them to be healed in Jesus’ name?

Will they step forward to command the dead to rise? The demonized to be set free?  Will they do it themselves or say to themselves, “I don’t know if God will really show up for me . I don’t expect this to work.”

This is quite contrary to the instructions of our Lord Jesus:

“And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons… they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” Mark‬ ‭16:17-18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead,  cast out demons… (Matthew 10: 8 NKJV)

The same goes for prophecy, prosperity and many other blessings found in the Word of God.
On the path to maturity, this fear has to be overcome. The Kingdom of God is not only in Word but in Power (1 Cor 4:20)

We need to step out in faith on His Word that He is always with us. That Holy Spirit is residing  in your own body and will show up for You whenever and wherever you have need of Him.

HEARING AND OBEYING

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Romans 10:17 NKJV

The Hebrew Word translated as “hearing” is Shâma.

Shâma not only means to hear but also to obey.

From the inspired Hebrew texts, Obedience shows that you have truly heard.
In Scripture, we see …Hear my voice… (Gen 4:23) and  … Obey my voice… (Gen 27:8)

These two words mean the same. Until you obey, you haven’t truly heard.

So we see James the Apostle state that we should only be hearers but doers of the Word (James 1:22) Because if you don’t DO it, you haven’t really heard.

Hence Faith does not simply come by  hearing the Word of God BUT by OBEYING THE WORD OF GOD.

Permit me to rephrase what Paul really meant from this passage:

Faith comes by obeying. Hearing the Word of God

This is very important concerning your growth as a believer.
Faith without works is dead because it is not faith until it is done or obeyed.

“Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.”

‭James‬ ‭2:17-18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The One coming with “faith” alone doesn’t really have faith. From this passage, you can see that the works shows the person’s faith. You don’t have to simply hear, you have to obey. This is the work that shows that you have truly heard. This is the main foundation unto maturity in Christ thus perfection.

“…though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. And having been perfected,  He became the author of eternal salvation TO ALL WHO OBEY HIM.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭5:8-9‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Jesus wasn’t made perfect just by simply hearing. He was perfected by obeying the Word of The Father. He suffered for it. Obedience was not easy at the pinnacle of His death assignment but he achieved it and attained perfection here on earth.

He understood this principle and is commanding us to do the same. He is the author of eternal salvation, not for those who simply hear him BUT for those who OBEY him.
CONCLUSION

Have faith in God and in His Word in every situation and at all times whether good or bad. Whether it beats or contradicts your current logic, theology or revelation, His Word is Always Sure. Much better than that of Man.

Have faith in God for your own self that He will come through for you when you need Him. For He will never leave nor forsake you.
And Faith doesn’t not simply come by hearing. Faith actually comes by obedience. Your Obedience to God’s Word shows that you have truly heard.
Do these things and just like Jesus Christ,  You are on your way to attaining Perfection.
Shalom!!!
