GRACE 104: HOW WE MISS THE POINT

It has been a while hasn’t it? Well the Grace Experience series is back! Let’s forge on.

Quick Recap:

1. Grace is the unmerited totality of God’s work through Jesus Christ in our lives.
2. God works differently in every period of time. These periods are called  dispensations and He has a set of tools He uses to operate called covenants.
3. Our part in the covenant of Grace is to rest and receive the blessings of God
Now looking at this, it seems too good to be true. As such more often than not when believers receive the gift of grace, we start to want to do something so as to earn these blessings coming our way.

Galatians 3:1  O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?

Galatians  3:2  This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Galatians 3:3  Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

The believers in Galatia thought that too. After receiving the gift of grace wanted to earn it by living by the Law. Paul called the foolish… Harsh, isn’t it? But truth is truth. Our Lord Jesus Christ came to fulfil the Law. The Law has been fulfilled, why go back under the Law?

Does this mean that because we have the gift of grace we can just go around living La Vida Loca? Of course not.
From Romans 6:14, sin cannot have dominion over us because we are under grace not the Law. Where the Law tells us to live godly lives, the Grace of God enables us to do so.

Titus 2:11  For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

Titus 2:12  Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

We do not need to feel as though we are living godly lives by following the Law. We just need to let ourselves be taught by His grace. Open our hearts to the ministrations of His precious Holy Spirit and He’ll do the rest.
Shalom
