Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in Heaven is perfect.
Matthew 5:48 NKJV
But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge….
In our previous sessions, we discussed Knowledge in various aspects. Today we are deal with the issue of IGNORANCE.
Let Us begin with this well-known Verse of Scripture:
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.”
Hosea 4:6 NASB
From this passage, God rejects the people from being his priests (servants) because they rejected knowledge of the His Word in His Law. They were destroyed for nothing else but the lack of knowledge. Their own ignorance destroyed them.
Ignorance is one of the greatest oppositions unto the experience of the grace, blessings and deep things of God provided for the church. The apostles, in the early church, contended with this opposition. Their major problem was that this was going on in the Body of Christ.
Let us go through one of the examples;
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
1 Corinthians 12:1 KJV
In the days of Paul and even now, there is still a great amount of the light of knowledge missing in the Church concerning spiritual gifts. Many of those who believe that the gifts are still operational today, think that they are just optional –An added benefit. If they have it, wonderful! If they do not, their Christian life is not affected. But this is not so.
God gave every one gifts through His Spirit. Gifts are to be coveted earnestly and zealously. Gifts must be used. They are cardinal to the Christian lifestyle for they bear witness to the supernatural gospel and life of the Kingdom of God.
How do you expect any unbeliever to believe the message of someone who died for them , resurrected and ascended to Heaven without a show of the supernatural power of God through these gifts? It doesn’t make sense to logic unless logic is beaten by a power beyond logic – the supernatural.
Another example is that of a wonderful story accounted in 1 Chronicles 13.
This is the story of David and the Ark of the Covenant of God. The Ark was taken from Israel and sent to the Land of the Philistines. But the plan of the Philistines to use the Ark to mock the people of Israel didn’t exactly work well. All their idols were being destroyed before the presence of God. So they took the Ark out of their Land and left it there.
The Israelites with their King came to bring the Ark of the Covenant back home. They placed it in a cart and drove it back with singing and dancing.
But God was angry. He finally released His anger unto Uzzah who tried (with good intentions ) to support the Ark from falling.
This wasn’t about good intentions. Uzzah was destroyed for lack of knowledge. They left the Ark at the House of one Obed-Edom and retuned for it when they have finally gained knowledge from God’s Word.
David found out that the Ark was to be carried only by the Levites (1 Chronicles 15:2, Deuteronomy 10:8) With this knowledge, The Ark was finally brought back to Israel.
The main reason why many believers are being defeated by problems is because ignorance. Like David , Uzzah and the rest of the nation of Israel, good works or intentions do not justify ignorance. The Word of God instructs us not to be ignorant of the schemes and devices of the Devil. Otherwise, He will take advantage of you.(2 Corinthians 2:11)
This is how important Knowledge is. Particularly, knowledge of God’s Word and His Will. You will always be disadvantaged in the area you are ignorant of.
Attain Perfection. Seek Knowledge. Grace has been made available for you.
