For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ”
Philippians 3:20, NKJV
As Believers, we have an established citizenship which is in Heaven. By avenue of this foundation, our purpose
can then spring forth into achievement. We also know that though we are in the world, we are not of world; just like our Lord Jesus (John 17:16). Therefore there must be a purpose for which we are sent to a world that we are not a part of.
“And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me”
Luke 22:29, KJV
The Lord Jesus appointed unto His disciples, the Kingdom; of which we believers are a part of. The word ‘appoint’ was translated from the original Greek language ‘diatithemai’ which is derived from the root words ‘dia’ and ‘tithemi’. The word ‘dia’ means through and ‘tithemi’ means to set in place or to establish.
The Lord Jesus actually meant that by the authority given to Him to establish the Kingdom by the Father, He gives us the authority and power to also establish the same Kingdom prepared by the Father. By combining the two root words, He meant that through believers like you and I (citizens), the kingdom will be set in place or established.
He therefore placed the Kingdom within us by avenue of the Holy Ghost residing in us (Romans 14:17) and by doing this, gave us the power and authority to exercise this mandate of the kingdom bestowed upon us.
The Apostle Paul sheds more light on this power in the book of Ephesians 1:19:
“And what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe…”
This is the purpose for which we were sent to this world. You should understand that this Kingdom ,that I am talking about, is also not of this world. Our Lord Jesus, while on earth, clearly affirmed to this truth in his discourse with Pontius Pilate when asked of His Kingdom;
“Jesus answered, ‘My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.”
Beloved citizens of Heaven, this is a glorious and a very important mandate. For this very reason, we were bestowed an important rank of authority in order to fulfill it. This is what Paul asserts concerning this revelation:
“Now then, we are AMBASSADORS FOR CHRIST, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.”
2 Corinthians 5:20
The ambassadorship of the Kingdom has been conferred unto us by our Lord Jesus Christ. An ambassador is different from a member of parliament or a congressman for they both represent a group of people in a nation. An ambassador represents the entire nation or kingdom in another Kingdom/nation.
Therefore, when one meets an ambassador, he/she has actually met a whole Kingdom. This is just as meeting the Ruler of the kingdom. Using this line of thought, When the Father appointed the kingdom unto our Lord Jesus, the Father and the entire Kingdom placed themselves into the Lord Jesus making him the personification of the Kingdom.
“Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come,
He answered them and said, The kingdom of God does not come with observation; nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.”
The word “within” as translated from Greek is “entos” which suggests that the Kingdom should be searched from the inside. Not by outward displays. The word entos also suggests amongst outwardly. Jesus Christ was standing amongst the Pharisees with the kingdom that He was preaching of, inside Him.
This explains what the Lord Jesus meant by he being appointed the Kingdom by the Father. By reason of the entire Kingdom in him, He became the person of the Kingdom outwardly amongst men.
We can now understand what it means for the Lord Jesus to appoint the very same Kingdom unto us. What a great privilege! This is way higher than being a mere citizen of the Kingdom.
As Ambassadors, when you walk into a place, the Father, Our Lord Jesus and the entirety of Heaven have stepped into the place. Hallelujah!
Imagine the vast possibilities of things you have been equipped to perform when this understanding sinks deep into your heart. Sickness, diseases, demons and all the region of darkness cower in fear upon meeting you.
However, this rank of ambassadorship has been taken up by very few believers. This is very sad. To be an ambassador, one must be actively doing the work of the ministry assigned to that individual. This citizen must take up the mandate appointed to him/her by the Lord Jesus Christ.
Paul, the Apostle, expounds on this truth in Ephesians 6:19-20;
“…that utterance may be given me in opening my mouth boldly TO PROCLAIM THE MYSTERY OF THE GOSPEL, FOR WHICH I AM AN AMBASSADOR in chains; that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.”
This privilege is only reserved for those who are actively doing what they were sent to do by the Lord Jesus. Ambassadors do not entertain room for complacency and insouciance in relation to the assignment for which the church was called to perform.
These kind of people understand that they are but pilgrims with a mission in this world . The rest of believers are just mere citizens most of which lack quality understanding of the reason why they were called out to be the church in the first place. Some believe that it is all about looking pretty, attending service regularly and doing more good deeds than bad deeds. Go figure. It is heartbreaking that some believers do not even have knowledge of their citizenship in Heaven.
Let us take up the mandate of this divine kingdom appointment and run with it on this world so that the will of the Father and our Lord Jesus will be fully established. Run with this understanding. Shalom!!!
