It’s an awesome time to be in the kingdom of Heaven. As a citizen of this wonderful Heavenly kingdom, you have various advantages over the others. Your health system is different, you have the ability to see things on the earth much clearly, and you have so many things that the others don’t. These things makes you stand out from amongst the crowd.
The main problem is knowing what they are and how to activate them for your benefit. My topic for today is the blessing of favor.
“Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.”
Psalm 5:12 NIV
When the Lord blesses you, He surrounds you with His favor.
The Lord blesses the righteous. Guess what? You are righteous for you are in Christ. Righteousness is not about your works; it’s about Christ’s flawless works imputed to you(1 Corinthians 1:30). That was the first gift from God you received once you became His child(Romans 5:17). All you did was believe by accepting the gift He gave you.
The Word favor in Hebrew implies the terms pleasure, delight, approval, acceptable etc.
This is what God does for you. He causes you to be delighted. He made you a delight to people. He made something about you stand out that makes others somewhat attracted to you. They place you on their priority list. These people can be your lecturers, employers, investors, sponsors, clients etc.
The blessing of the Lord does a lot of things. For one, it has the ability to make you rich.
“The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.”
Proverbs 10:22 NKJV
It doesn’t give you riches. It gives you the ability to make you rich. It gives you the power to make wealth – something of value to share and serve others that will make them give you something of value in return. That value they give you is what makes you rich.
The passage above adds, “He adds no sorrow with it.” The Word “sorrow” in Hebrew otzb/esteb. This means painful toil. This kind of toil is not hardwork. It is overwork. It is a strenuous labour for a long period of time, for just a little reward. You work and work and all you get is just enough to pay your bills and put food on your table. Nothing more. Its sorrowful working that way.
On the other hand, it is a blessing to serve and gain great value without overworking. This is what leads you to greatness.
It is great to be blessed by the Lord with favor. Isaac enjoyed it. No matter the wells the locals took from him; anywhere he went, water sprung up from any well he dug. The locals realized how truly favored he was.
What about Joseph? It took the favor of God to cause Joseph to find favor in the Pharaoh’s sight. He was transformed from a foreign, disgraced prisoner to the prime minister of all of Egypt – which was a great kingdom at that time, comprising of so many different kinds of people and countries.
This blessing of favor is your advantage as a citizen of the kingdom of Heaven. In Christ, this blessing amongst others is yours.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,”
Ephesians 1:3 NKJV
It says here that you have been blessed with every spiritual blessing that the Kingdom of Heaven has.
I want to end this with my opinion on the how.
Acknowledge first that this blessing is your heritage.
Meditate on it till you truly believe in it with all your heart, leaving no room for doubt. Repeat your Heavenly father’s word to Him in prayer.
Understand the will of the Lord concerning riches and greatness.
Jesus once told a parable with the underlying lesson: be rich towards God and not for selfish gains (Luke 12:16-21). If you seek to be great just for your happiness, that is regarded as being self-centered. Your prayers will not be answered. James confirmed this in His epistle: “You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.” (James 4:3 NKJV)
Seek ye the kingdom…
Jesus advised; “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33 NKJV).
This is the way to be rich and great towards God. Aim to serve what God gives you unto others for the benefit of the Kingdom agenda – the will of God effected on the earth and influencing it to be just like Heaven.
Within each of you is a passion, burden, an idea; something you have to serve to others and by it, influence the earth – effecting what God brought you to the earth for. Doing God’s will for you on the earth is the key to attracting His favor and everything you ask of Him. That is what seeking the kingdom means – performing your part on its glorious agenda. If this is your cause, all that you need will be added unto you.
So, with these in play, ask the Lord to bless you with favor. It’s your heritage. Remember this important note:
You’ve got the prayer and God has got the power and the right timing.
Trust Him always.
